One of the major requirements for obtaining your dealer license in South Carolina is completing a pre-licensing course. The SCDMV has certified several service providers, but we've partnered with Carolina Dealer Training since 2010 because they're the best educators in the Carolinas.

The course covers the basics of running a compliant SC dealership: licensing requirements, the SCDMV's expectations during inspection, sales tax collection, the FTC Used Car Rule (Buyer's Guide), record-keeping requirements, surety bond obligations, and the rules around advertising, financing, and consumer protection in South Carolina.
The certificate
When you complete the course, you'll receive a Pre-Licensing Course Certificate. The original certificate must be mailed in with your DLA-1 application packet. Copies are not accepted by the SCDMV.
