An Automotive SEO Website Case Study
In February 2026 we worked with Drew at Lakeside Auto Exchange to rebuild his website around a real automotive SEO foundation. Three months later, the data tells the story.
The site existed. People weren't finding it.
Drew runs Lakeside Auto Exchange in Denver, NC. Before our work together, his website was getting 88 clicks in 3 months from his Google Business Profile listing.
His average Google ranking sat at 35.3. That means when his site did surface in search results, it was usually on page 4. Out of sight, out of mind.
A full website rebuild, with SEO baked into every page.
Everything below is part of how we build car dealer websites for independent Carolina dealers. The list is short. The work behind each item is what makes the difference.
Custom images and AI imaging
Real photos of the lot and team, with AI-generated supporting visuals where photography wasn't available.
Vehicle-specific body-style pages
Dedicated SUV, truck, and sedan pages instead of one generic inventory page Google can't categorize.
Brand-focused content
Rewrote every page to sell the Lakeside brand specifically, not template boilerplate that could be any dealership.
Customer testimonials everywhere
Real reviews placed throughout the site - homepage, category pages, and individual vehicle pages.
VDPs with "Why Buy From Us" + local map pack
Every vehicle detail page now reinforces why Lakeside is the right choice and where they're located.
Google Business Profile optimization
Categories, services, descriptions, photos, and posts all updated to match what buyers are actually searching for.
Added to the KGI Network
Lakeside was added to 704usedcars.com, cardealersnc.com, and usednc.com for local exposure and quality backlinks.
Every metric that matters went the right way.
By May 2026, Drew's Google Search Console data had completely flipped from where it was in early February.
| Metric | Previous 6 months | Latest 6 months | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total clicks | 214 | 899 | +320% |
| Total impressions | 21.6K | 18.5K | -14% |
| Average CTR | 1% | 4.9% | +390% |
| Average position | 35.3 | 18.2 | +17.1 spots |
The 1% to 4.9% CTR jump is the number every SEO professional is chasing. It means Google moved Lakeside from positions where nobody clicked to positions where buyers actually do.
The unicorn: new customers Google sent us.
Two queries tell the most important story. The first is the brand search - people typing "lakeside auto exchange" directly into Google. That grew from 52 clicks to 234. More people now know the brand exists.
The second one is harder to grow and means much more. "Used cars near me" - a generic, non-brand search by someone who has no idea Lakeside exists - went from 1 click in 6 months to 27.
Every one of those 27 is a new customer Google found for Drew.
The cleanest before/after we measured.
A direct apples-to-apples comparison: how many people clicked from Drew's Google Business Profile to his website, in the 3 months before vs. the 3 months after.
| Period | GBP → Website Clicks |
|---|---|
| Nov 11 - Feb 11 (before SEO rebuild) | 88 |
| Feb 11 - May 11 (after SEO rebuild) | 551 +526% |
A clean 6x increase from one channel alone. Every one of those 551 clicks is a buyer who saw Lakeside in the Google Maps pack and decided to visit the website.
When you put real effort into your content, you get results like this.
Most used-car-dealer websites today come from large corporate platforms focused on quantity of customers, not quality. Those companies have to build systems and processes that work at national scale. That doesn't translate into custom work.
You'll see them promise to spin up your website in less than 48 hours. If that's the promise, ask yourself how templated the result has to be. A website that comes out of a 48-hour assembly line cannot rank against a custom site that someone actually thought about.
Real conversations. Local knowledge. Custom work.
We talk to you on the phone
Before we touch a website, we have an actual conversation about your dealership, your inventory, and what makes your lot different from the one down the road.
An in-depth questionnaire
Your services, financing setup, customer types, local market. The raw material that makes the content sound like a real dealership and not a template.
Local knowledge of your area
We work exclusively with NC and SC independent dealers, so we know your DMV forms, your customer base, and your competition.
Custom images wherever possible
Real photos of your lot, team, and inventory. When we don't have them, we create them from your Facebook posts, Google Street View, or AI image tools tuned to your brand.
