SEO Quick Tips for Your Dealership Website in 2026
Updated December 2025
With AI and ChatGPT easily accessible dealers are looking for quick tips to improving their car dealership SEO in 2026.
Here’s the deal: the Internet is quickly transitioning to a “zero click search” world now. People are getting their answers directly from AI without ever clicking through to websites! Google’s AI Mode is becoming the default search experience, and if you’re not part of that conversation, you’re invisible.

Most “SEO experts” aren’t telling you this, though; optimizing your website is just the starting point. Yes, you need a strong core website where every page has a purpose.
But the game has shifted to being everywhere else – Social media, directories, YouTube, Reddit, local sponsorships, and especially your Google Business Profile.
Think about it: when someone asks AI “best used car dealership near me,” where is that information coming from? It’s pulling from your Google listing, your reviews on multiple platforms, mentions of your dealership in local forums, your YouTube videos, and even Instagram posts (which Google now indexes).
So while I’ll give you the website basics, we’re quickly pivoting to the outside factors that actually get you into AI responses and zero-click searches.
Here’s the Rundown
Stop Writing Like a Robot, Start Writing Like You Know Cars
Gone are the days of keyword stuffing. You know what I’m talking about – those vehicle descriptions that read like “This red Ford F-150 truck is a great red Ford F-150 truck for anyone looking for a red Ford F-150 truck.”
AI favors content that actually knows what it’s talking about. That means:
Write like the car expert you are. When you’re describing a 2022 Honda Civic, don’t just list features. Explain WHY someone would want those features. “The CVT transmission in this Civic gets an EPA-estimated 32 city/42 highway mpg, which means fewer gas station stops for your daily commute.”
Include real numbers and sources. Instead of saying “great gas mileage,” say “achieves 35 mpg combined according to EPA testing.” AI loves specifics.
Answer the questions your customers actually ask. Your sales team hears the same questions every day. Turn those into content:
- “What’s the difference between the LX and EX trim levels?”
- “How does certified pre-owned warranty work?”
- “Why should I finance through the dealership vs. my bank?”
Make Your Website MORE Mobile-Friendly
I know, I know. You’ve heard this before. But here’s the thing – 70-80% of dealership website traffic now comes from mobile devices. If your site looks wonky on a small screen or if your menu takes up half your screen and navigation is clunky people won’t stick around, they’ll move on.
Quick mobile check: Pull out your phone right now and try to browse your own inventory. Can you easily:
- Browse your inventory?
- View high-quality photos?
- Get your phone number or directions just by tapping?
- Submit a lead form without wanting to throw your phone?
If any of that was frustrating, your customers will feel the same way.
Local SEO is Still King (Maybe Even More So)
Here’s some good news: local SEO matters more than ever for car dealers. People aren’t buying cars from dealers across the country. They’re searching for “used cars near me” and “trucks for 20k in Winston-Salem”
Google Business Profile is your best friend. Fill out EVERY field:
- Your hours – Update often! Add holiday hours.
- Max out your categories – Make ‘used car dealership’ your primary one but then max out the others.
- Add pictures periodically – Take them on your phone from your lot and add them. The geolocation data on the images is great.
- Regular posts about your business – Google likes an active profile!
Get more reviews and actually respond to them! (This is huuuge!)
Nearly 90% of marketers believe reviews help with search rankings. And here’s a pro tip: respond to negative reviews professionally. It shows you care about customer service.
Create location-specific pages on your Website
Create pages for searches you can appear in. You won’t show in “used cars raleigh” – that’s dominated by National sites like Autotrader and franchise sites like Hendrick. BUT narrow it down more and pages like “Minvans for sale in Garner NC” or “Used trucks in Boone”, those have a very good chance if you do it right!
On each of thoses pages talk about how the type of vehicle they are searching for and pull in LOTS of local markers; schools, neighborhoods, landmarks.
OTHER QUICK TIPS: Provide directions to your store, add testimonials from local residents like “Carl from Fayetteville, NC”, and if you sponsor anything in that city show your support like “Proud sponsor of the Cary High School Band”.
Add Some Personality with Video Content
Video is where you can really stand out. AI now understands video content, which means your virtual tours and customer testimonials can help you rank better.
Easy video ideas that work:
- Walk-around tours of what’s new on the lot
- “Meet the team” videos (people like buying from people they know)
- Customer testimonials (ask happy customers to do a quick 15-second video) or take B-roll video and overlay a new review you get.
- Answer FAQs!
- Have fun and see how many Makes each team can say in 20 seconds
You don’t need a Hollywood production. A phone video that shows your personality will beat a boring stock photo every time. Use your favorite AI to give you ideas or even write video scripts.
Video Resources:
- Capcut.com
- Canva.com
- Submagic.co
- AI Videos Sources: HeyGen or ArcAd
Post these videos everywhere but especially as Youtube Shorts. The ones related specifically to your business, like the FAQs and Tour type, post to your Google Business Profile.
See the trend yet?
We are trying to show up EVERYWHERE!
Once you feel like the content on your website is solid quickly put it in 5th gear and go hard on external sources. The dealers who are dominating in 2026 are the ones showing up in AI responses, and that happens because they’re everywhere their customers are looking.
Here are a few to get you started…
Use Instagram and Social Media Strategically
Google now indexes Instagram posts, which means your social media content can show up in search results. Use all of the video content we talked about already and post that on IG.
In addition, you’ll want to make Carousel posts: Images that you can swipe. Use something like Canva to create these and add content that is more informational and related to the services you provide.
Use local some hashtags and geotag your location consistently.
Support Local Organizations (Hello, Backlinks!)
Have a budget that includes donating/supporting local schools, PTAs, chamber of commerce, charity drives and more! Not just because it’s good for the community (though it is), but because it gets your dealership mentioned and linked to from legitimate local websites, aka backlinks. It’s win-win because these organizations need your funding and you need their link juice 🙂
These authentic local backlinks tell AI that you’re a trusted part of the community. Much more valuable than generic directory links. Consider it part of your advertising budget.
–> Your local Chamber of Commerce is the easiest no-brainer membership you should go sign up for right now!
Be Part of Local Online Conversations
This is where most dealers miss the boat entirely. AI pulls information from everywhere, including Reddit, Quora, local Facebook groups, and community forums.
Join local Facebook groups and answer car-buying questions (don’t be salesy, just be helpful)
Answer questions on Reddit in your city’s subreddit when people ask about car dealers.
Participate in local business forums and directories
Get mentioned in local news and community websites by hosting events or charity drives.
Bottom Line: It’s Not Just About Your Website Anymore
Having a good website is still important, it’s your foundation, and it should be the place you are funneling people do. Your site should be one big advertisement as to why every car buyer should be buying from YOU!
But you won’t be successful online if you just stop at your website.
The dealers what will be winning in 2026 are treating the entire internet as their showroom.
They’re helpful in Facebook groups, active on YouTube, visible in local sponsorships, and constantly building their reputation across every platform where their customers might look.
Don’t try to game the system. Just be everywhere your customers are, be helpful, and be consistently present in your local community both online and offline.
